Kubler Al Abidin is a devoted family man. He believes that God should be first, one's spouse second and one's children third. He is saddened by the lack of commitment in marriage these days, and the foolish belief that a husband and wife will always feel love for each other, all the time. Real love includes passion, intimacy and commitment and also the help of God, the founder of marriage, to survive a lifetime. It is not just a feeling. We feel happy, we feel sad, we feel thirsty, so what? If we say I'm not thirsty anymore, or if we say I don't love you anymore, these are feelings that will never always be present. If anyone believes this they are only fooling themselves. So if a couple doesn't feel love for each other it doesn't mean the marriage must be discarded, it is a warning sign that priorities need to be reorganized. Nothing (kids, relatives, parents, friends, job, money, hobbies, television, etc.) should be a higher priority than one's spouse, except God. If one does this and makes an effort to build the marriage, things will get better. In marriage, just like any other thing of value, it takes a lot of work. Marriage either gets better because of a consistent effort or it gets worse. There is no flat line. If we make our family important by spending time with them everyday, they will support just about any honorable task we set out to accomplish.
